Everything was very clean and the room is spacious and comfortable and a good bed (important!) I was glad I had earplugs for sleeping - bc the dogs in the neighborhood bark a little- but you will find that nearly everywhere in tonga! The garden is gorgeous, a huge lawn for reading or doing yoga. It was 20min walk to town (normal for here) or very cheap rental cars or a scooter available make getting around easy.

The owner went out of her way to make her guests feel comfortable, and brought us to a very nice traditional dinner/culture show.

Raffish Nuku’alofa is the kingdom’s seat of government and the home of the royal family. While it may not be a perfect Pacific paradise, Tonga’s capital (aka ‘Dirty Nuke’) has hidden charm and promise if you blow the dust from the surface. The buzzy main street leads to the broad waterfront, from where there are impressive views across the bay to coral islands, a short boat ride away. The market here is a mainline into Tongan life, there are a few good places to eat and drink, and you’ll still see pigs and chickens careening around the back streets.
